Bellwoods Bursary

The Bellwoods Bursary covers the full tuition cost of one Metro Virtual Academy course for a student who is in financial need.

The purpose of this bursary is to help address any financial barriers that may exist so that students can have access to high-quality online education as they work to achieve their academic goals. The extent of financial need will be a primary factor in choosing bursary recipients.

Lynngate Award

The Lynngate Award is designed to offset expenses for a student intending to pursue post-secondary studies in a Fine Arts or Design program. The award covers the full tuition cost of one Metro Virtual Academy course.

Integrated Design

Animation

Media Studies

Visual Effects and Television

Fashion Design

Music Performance

Theatre and drama studies

Applications for the Lynngate Award require the submission of a portfolio of past or in-process works. We review a wide scope of portfolios, and we are not expecting you to have already acquired the skills and insights that your post-secondary studies will provide. However, we do need to see evidence that you are a practicing artist.

Wexford Award

The Wexford Award is designed to offset expenses for a student-athlete intending to pursue post-secondary studies while competing concurrently at the Varsity level. The award covers the full tuition cost of one Metro Virtual Academy course.

Applications for the Wexford Award require the submission of a NCAA/U SPORTS proof of commitment, highlight reel, or list of achievements. In order to be considered, we need to see evidence that you are a committed student-athlete.

How do I apply? (And other frequently asked questions)

In order for applications to be considered complete, students are required to submit an up-to-date copy of their high school transcript (if a transcript is unavailable, students may send an up-to-date report of their academic progress). All submitted information is held securely in a confidential manner. Results will be released only to the recipient. With the written consent of the student, the results may also be used to promote the Awards Program at Metro Virtual Academy. A confirmation receipt will be sent once MVA has received your application.

Each bursary/award will be granted twice a year (in September and January) by MVA’s Board of Directors. MVA must receive the application and supporting documents by the 15th of the month in which the bursary will be granted.

Recipients will be chosen based on the extent of their financial need, among other criteria. Once recipients have been determined, all applicants (both successful and unsuccessful) will be contacted by email.

Students granted a bursary/award will receive full tuition to one MVA course. The bursary/award is non-transferable, and successful applicants must utilize the bursary/award within 90 days of the date of issuance.

Any person or organization may contact MVA to make a contribution to the program. Any donations made will be acknowledged on the MVA website and on social media if the donors desire such recognition.
